VISITORS to Trowbridge Park will be greeted by a colourful display of artwork from this week as a new mural, showcasing the town’s history, has been put up on the tennis court fences.

As part of the Art in the Park schools project which was conceived by Friends of Trowbridge Park more than two years ago, the artwork has been named All in the Weave – measuring at 20m in length.

The project has been led by a local artist Paul Workman with the collaboration of Year 9 students from John of Gaunt School and takes on a pop art style.

Mr Workman said he hopes the display reminds people of the weaving heritage of Trowbridge.

“What I said to the students was go along to the museum to research the history of Trowbridge and come up with a visual representation of various aspects of the town in a pop art style," he said. "The important thing from my point of view was that the students took on a project, not matter how big or small, but they enjoyed it.”

All in the Weave is just the first project planned for Trowbridge Park in the coming months.

Sharl Adabashi, chairman of the FoTP said that the grand unveiling on Thursday was the perfect opportunity for the kids to show off their artistic skills.

He added: “We wanted the project to progress organically and over the next year, students will contribute other ideas based on art or the heritage of Trowbridge or anything else they can think of.

“Art is a great way of looking at the history of Trowbridge for the young people because they are not only learning but it is also quite fun to get creative. Plus it also reinforces how well the young people of Trowbridge have done.”
