POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 20-year-old woman was assaulted in the early hours of Sunday in Trowbridge.

At approximately 3.15am, the woman was assaulted by a man, who is known to her, outside Lloyds Pharmacy side entrance on Market Street. Fortunately, she was not injured.

The woman is described as white, of slim build, with long black hair. She was wearing a mid-thigh length black dress.

The man is described as white, approximately 6ft tall, with brown hair. He was wearing a light blue shirt and light coloured trousers.

Detective Constable Steph Brazier said: "The victim was helped by several members of the public following the assault. As well as this, there were a number of people queuing at the nearby taxi bay, and several taxi drivers. We'd like to speak to any of these people immediately. Any information may be crucial to our investigation."

A 19-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail pending further enquiries.
