AS A small school with a big heart, Oasis Academy Longmeadow in Trowbridge strives to put the individual needs of pupils at the forefront of education.

Since becoming part of Oasis Community Learning in 2013, the school hopes to give pupils opportunities to achieve their full potential while adhering to nine principles – compassion, patience, humility, joy, honesty, hope, consideration, forgiveness and self-control.

The school, which has 138 pupils in six classes, also prides itself on equality and inclusion to celebrate the diverse ethnicities of its pupils and the richness that cultural diversity brings to the school.

Principal Caroline Cox, who came into the position two years ago, said: “The school has been on a journey of reinvention, redevelopment and regeneration since the new leadership structure has been in place.

“Our staff are both motivational and motivated to support our children to be the best they can be. They are a talented team, committed to improving the lives of our children, ensuring they have the opportunity to develop as individuals but also understand the value of being part of a healthy, supportive community.

“Learning is creative, innovative and exciting. The pupil voice is a powerful measure of our success. Our children are at the heart of every decision, action and system we make and establish.”

In its last Ofsted report, inspectors said the school required improvement but since then, teachers have “demonstrated the ambition and commitment to ensure it is at least good at its next inspection.”

Oasis also has an active and vibrant Friends of Oasis Academy Longmeadow group, which raises funds through numerous community events for the children’s enrichment experiences such as books for their newly-stocked library.

The academy’s community work is added to by its garden club, which is part of the Rocket Garden Project supported by Sodexo and grows fruit and vegetables that are then incorporated into the weekly menu.

Two years ago, it was also awarded Wiltshire’s Healthy Schools award.

Mrs Cox added: “Community is at the heart of our academy and our parents are an integral part of the school’s success.”
