TROWBRIDGE Lions put on a roaring May fair in the centre of town on Saturday as visitors took advantage of the sunny weather to visit a whole host of stalls.

The annual event is organised by the group on behalf of Trowbridge Town Council and saw local organisations and charities set up stalls in Fore Street to raise money, while there was also lots of entertainment on offer for well-wishers.

There were 24 stalls in total including charities such as Dorothy House Hospice Care, Alzheimer’s Support, The Salvation Army, and the Greyhound and Lurcher Welfare Group.

Peter Cook, who is on the Lions fundraising committee, said once again, he was extremely proud by the turnout.

“We act as a catalyst because the May fair brings a lot of charitable groups together and that is essentially the purpose behind putting the event on,” he added.

“Some charities have been regulars at the event including the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group.

“It is nice for me to see people enjoying it and the real plus was the weather. When you organise things, the last thing you have control of is the weather and all in all, people seemed very pleased with the day.

“The stall holders came away with smiles on their faces and it was nice to the event in the centre of Trowbridge on the weekend.”

The day included performances from the Young Shamrock Irish Dancers and Melksham Rock ‘n Roll, which also provided dance lessons for anyone interest in taking to the dance floor.

Trowbridge Town Crier Trevor Heeks was also on hand to ring in the day – something which added attraction to the event according to Mr Cook.

“Trevor being Trevor, he can’t say no and he is just a wonderful guy. He is probably the most familiar face in Trowbridge probably further afield and he is just Mr Marvellous.”
