POLICE have launched an appeal for information after a 23-year-old man was robbed in the early hours of yesterday morning (June 5).
At approximately 4.45am on Sunday, a man was walking alone in Bythesea Road while talking to a friend on his mobile phone, when he was approached by an unknown man who began to engage him in conversation.
He then punched the victim to the face before taking his mobile phone from his hand and running off towards the underground Shires car park.
The suspect is described as white, with short dark hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a black coat and white trainers. He is believed to have spoken with a Polish accent.
Detective Constable Tom Fenwick said: "Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any serious injuries but was no doubt left shaken by the incident.
"I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of this offence, who may have seen the two men before or after the incident, to get in touch immediately.
"Any information, no matter how small, may be crucial to our investigation. Call police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred."
