TROWBRIDGE cricket club was spruced up this week thanks to Tesco and a dedicated team of volunteers who spent two days renovating the clubhouse ahead of a memorial match on Sunday.

Over 40 volunteers rolled up their sleeves on Monday and Tuesday to give the changing rooms, toilets, hallway area and outside of the club a lick of paint which was sponsored by Tesco who funded the cost of materials and supplying the food.

Cricketer Rob Edginton, 37, who is also a Tesco store manager in Gloucester, oversaw the project which he said was a huge success.

He added: “The whole project came on really well and while we had a few minor glitches, because we couldn’t get to certain places, Trowbridge Power Tools came to the rescue as they donated things for us to use.

“A lot of it has been done by Tesco and they have pulled it out of the bag in terms of renovating the place. It is a team effort from cricketers, friends and family as well as Tesco workers from Trowbridge, my store in Gloucester and my brother Stuart’s store in Yeovil.

“Over the years, we have got to know Christine Davies and Brian Scrine and we have seen the club at its lowest point but also its best when they took it over. We were planning to hold this a couple of months ago but after everything that went on, we decided to delay it but it has spurred us on to do it and make the cricket club a better place.

“Because of our connections to the cricket club, we have pulled together as many people we could for the renovation which not only benefits visitors but also Tesco who do a lot of community work.

“I’ve spent many years playing here and as my own children get older, I hope this place inspires them to play here.”

The newly-revamped cricket club will be unveiled on Sunday (June 12) for the annual Patrick Padfield Shield memorial match against the Veteran XI.
