ENTHUSIASTIC members of the Gloucester Road Allotment Association greeted guests with its annual open day on Saturday, raising £260 for charity in the process.

Approximately 60 people popped into the Trowbridge site for a barbecue, plants sale, stalls, games and refreshments.

The charity Free Wheelers Blood Bikers, a free out-of-hours motorcycle courier service to hospitals in the south west and were the benefactors of the fundraising efforts, also came down to showcase some of their bikes.

“It was a great day out, everyone had a lovely time, there was a really lively and sociable atmosphere and we completely sold out which was wonderful,” said organiser Valerie Fahey, 68.

“We have been doing this for over 10 years and each and every time we come away thinking that was well worth it.”

The day also celebrated the unveiling of the site’s new gate and fencing area, courtesy of a £3,000 lottery fund grant, which was fitted by local company Hiscock Engineers Ltd.

“It looks really safe, smart and secure and we are very grateful,” she added.
