HUNDREDS of families flocked to Trowbridge Park for Alzheimer Support’s family fun day on Saturday which managed to raise nearly £5,000 for the charity.

The inaugural event was first scheduled to take place in May but had to be postponed due to bad weather.

But with the park basking in sunshine on Saturday, families took full advantage of the whole host of free activities on offer including a bouncy castle, quad bikes and a treasure hunt.

Babs Harris, chief executive of the Trowbridge-based charity said: “We had a fantastic day. Thanks to everyone who came and to all the volunteers and staff who manned stalls and helped make the day a real success.”

Trowbridge mayor Linda Self opened the event which saw local musicians give up their time for free including The Likes, Escapade and Broken Silence and Dee Dee Wilde of Pan’s People fame who led everyone in a community line-dance.

The Odeon cinema donated popcorn while compere John Craig entertained crowds during each performance.

Ms Harris added: “Even the sun put in an appearance and it was lovely to see so many families enjoying the music and joining in with the fun. We are already thinking about next year’s event.”

The winner of the Treasure Hunt was Harvey Treby who won £100 gift voucher from John Cadby Jewellers, while Cloey Clinch won a large box of Lego on the Guess the Lego competition.

The money raised will be added towards Alzheimer’s Support range of services to support people living at home with any type of dementia.
