TROWBRIDGE mayor Linda Self was out cleaning the town’s streets this morning ahead of the civic procession on Sunday.

Cllr Self, who became mayor in May, said she wanted to take a proactive role in tidying up the town and hopes to call on the support of locals to get involved too.

“In my opinion the more people that can help out, the merrier,” the 64-year-old added.

“The centre of Trowbridge is a complete mess and we are the county town and it is quite a shame that there are thousands of cigarette butts and weeds on the pavement.

“You can see all the weeds growing and frankly it is disgusting.”

Along with council secretary Trish Carpenter, Cllr Self was out cleaning the streets this morning ready for the civic service on Sunday which will see a number of mayors come together for a service at St James’ Church.

A procession will also make its way through the town centre led by town crier Trevor Heeks.

“If people can see rubbish and pick it up and put it in a bin that would be such a help,” Cllr Self added.

“We will also be out in the centre of Trowbridge from around 8am on Saturday if anyone wants to help us. We will be sweeping up as much as we can.

“Boxer Nick Blackwell is helping us as well and we want the whole town to get involved.”
