AN AVID Everton supporter took his love of the game to new heights by cycling to 19 premiership football club grounds all in the name for charity.

Aircraft engineer Eddie Janion, who lives in Semington with his girlfriend Kathryn, set aside 12 days to complete the tough task but managed to finish it in just 10 days – cycling nearly 150 miles a day.

Starting off from St James' Park in Newcastle to Swansea's Liberty Stadium, the native Liverpudlian, who moved to Semington in 2014, said despite the gruelling challenge, every minute was worth it knowing the money raised would be donated to Cancer Research UK.

“I lost my grandparents when I was young as well as my auntie to cancer and so that was a main inspiration in raising money for the charity and it made it all the more poignant for me to complete it,” the 32-year-old added.

“Cancer Research UK are making great strides in looking at a cure for cancer and I hope the donations I have made go to some way in helping their research.

“The whole challenge was decided over a couple of pints in a pub with a few friends and I said I wanted to do something bigger and better to other challenges I've done before.”

Having previously completed a shorter charity cycle last year, Mr Janion, who enrolled in the navy in 2009, uploaded regular updates to his Facebook page informing friends and family how he was getting on during his solo ride.

He is now half way to his £5,000 target and hopes to call on the support of his colleagues at RAF Yeovilton to help him raise the rest.

He added: “A highlight of the challenge was meeting so many people along the way because I was able to speak to a couple of people who had just gone through their cancer treatment or were still undergoing it.

“I was overwhelmed to make it that far and the messages of support I have received through social media has been such a relief for me.”

Mr Janion is now planning an even bigger fundraising challenge for next year.
