TWO Trowbridge sisters put their special bond to the test on Friday by shaving their heads all in the name of charity.

Charley and Cat O’Connor of Wyke Road, decided to take part in the Brave the Shave campaign for Macmillan Cancer Support after the pair have lost family members in recent years to the disease – raising £520 in the process.

Cat, 26 said: “We have lost family members to cancer and it is something that has also affected our friends and their families as well. I used to work with a lady who survived cancer and Macmillan helped her a lot which is what inspired it really.

“I wanted to do something to help. I am an incredibly lazy person and I don’t like running and I thought what could I do which doesn’t involve that so I decided to shave my hair off. When I told Charley she said she would do it with me so I didn’t have to do it by myself.

“I was a little bit nervous in having it done because I have had short had before but nothing like this. It was a big step for me to have it all shaved off but the more I looked into it, I thought my hair will grow back but some people who have chemo won’t have it grow.

“It was something small I could change in my life which will make a huge difference to someone else. Macmillan provide counselling for family members of people who have lost someone to cancer it so their work is a lot broader than people think.”

Macmillan’s Brave the Shave campaign has seen 19,657 people take part this year raising over £1.8m for the charity.

After having their shave done at Richard Gardener hairdressers in Stallard Street, the sisters visited Charley’s, 23 work at TK Maxx to show off their new looks.
