TROWBRIDGE firefighters made a splash for cash on Saturday as they held their annual charity car wash in aid of The Fire Fighters’ Charity.

A steady number of cars were seen queuing outside the Hilperton Road station with crews raising £560 by cleaning cars while they were also on hand to advise on home fire safety and provide information to anyone interested in joining the fire service.

Crew manager Bill Smith said: “We lost half of our day to the rain but we still did alright in the amount of cars coming through. We had some really good donations and a lot of people signed up for Gift Aid which is great news. We had a steady number coming in all day and despite the on call guys being left to hold the fort while we had a couple of calls, it was great to spend the day together.

“We don’t often get the chance but it was nice to have some social time while doing something good for charity.

“A lot of people have heard about the Fire Fighters’ Charity but they don’t realise how they help us get back to fitness after an illness or injury. It has been pivotal in getting me back to work and I can’t do enough for them in raising money and awareness.

“The charity is not only there to support the firefighter but also their families because we can go through some emotions situations which impact at home so it offers everyone support and help if the need it.”

The Fire Fighters Charity provides help to serving and retired personnel, their widows and young dependants through the provision of sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy.
