A TROWBRIDGE man, who is a voice over artist by day, will take centre stage next Friday night (Sept 23)as he fronts a David Bowie inspired gig to raise money for his late friend’s children.

Steve Evans, who now lives in Monkton Farleigh, is part of a 12-strong group of friends, dubbed the Bowie Collective, made up of musicians, actors and artists who live in and around Bristol, Bath and Wiltshire.

Mr Evans will take on the role of Bowie and hopes to raise money for the children of the group’s late friend Eve who lived in Bath.

The 47-year-old said: "We've always talking about doing a Bowie gig and we thought we could do a good job of it. When Bowie died we thought it would be the best time and we can have a great time doing it.

"At the same time, we are trying to raise money for our friend Eve who recently passed away and her husband died five years before and they left three children. I thought let’s do the Bowie gig but scale it up and bring the two things together just so we can do something for the children.

"We were all in the same circle friends that I met Eve and unfortunately she got ill particularly bad and that obviously had an impact on her children. They know they are going to be ok but every little helps.”

The group, who know one another from working in radio together in the area, will play an hour and a half set of Bowie classics with Mr Evans first discovering his love of music as a child.

He added: "I have a studio in Trowbridge and I do all of my television and voiceover work there for a lot of national adverts and I've always been around here. I've always been interested in music and I've been in a number of bands over the years.

"I first saw the cover of Aladdin Sane in a record collection when I was about five or six and I looked at Bowie and thought that it was genius and I've been a ridiculous Bowie fan ever since.

"One thing I've had quite a lot before is that I sound David Bowie so what better way to have fun and raise money.

"I hope Eve's children come along on the night and I hope they know that people have their back."

The gig starts at 7.30pm in Komedia in Bath and tickets are available from www.komedia.co.uk/bath
