TROWBRIDGE was brimming with up and coming entrepreneurs and performers on Saturday as young people took to the streets to show off their creative flair.

The Trowbridge Young Talent Market offered young people, aged 13-26, the chance to hold a stall or perform in Fore Street in order to build their brand and teach them about what it is like to run a business.

Building on the success of the Trowbridge Young Talent Market 2015, organisers Trowbridge Town Team, GoFish and Town Hall Arts said while there was a slight fall on stall holder numbers compared to last year, the quality of the products on display made all the difference.

David Baker, who leads the GoFish initiative on behalf of Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce said: “It was so busy and you just don’t know how these things are going to turn out but the whole day was an absolutely joy.

“I have been doing this sort of thing for 12 years and what I have found is that there are two big issues. The first is getting in to see the youngsters to discuss business but then it is to get them to decide whether to take part.

“I am really proud of the way it turned out because the young people made it happen. All I do is sit behind the scenes and help put it together. We have some smashing entrepreneurs coming though including George Daulman and Nicola Davis.

“From taking part on Saturday they were not only learning skills but they were also able to make money. All the young people said it went really well and they all want to be involved in future projects.”

As well as a whole host of things on display, organisers also arranged for a group of mystery judges to test the youngsters on their business skills and customer service with the winner being announced as 16-year-old April Collins who runs The Leafy Tea Company.

Tracy Sullivan, director of Town Hall Arts added: “We were really thrilled by how it went because there were some new artists that came forward that we didn’t know about.

“It was a really exciting opportunity for young people to get out there and the young talent market gives people the chance to perform outside of their bedrooms.”
