SHAW Trust’s Palmer Gardens social enterprise in Trowbridge has tightened security ahead of its Christmas light switch-on on Thursday, November 24.
The charity was left devastated last year after discovering that that over 40 metres worth of lights had been cut away from its fence ahead of its Christmas light switch-on.
Ahead of this year's event, the charity has increased its security measures and is partnering with police to deter thieves. CCTV and ‘Smart Water’ have also been fitted on its premises.
Emma Black, training manager at the social enterprise, said: “We are grateful to Wiltshire Police for providing extra security ahead of the switch-on.
"Last year we were deeply devastated to discover that our Christmas lights had been stolen, although we did not let it ruin our event, this year’s event is set to fantastic and our biggest yet.
"We hope the extra security measures will deter further theft so that local community can enjoy the beautiful lights.”
British Paralympian swimmer Stephanie Millward will switch on the lights at the premises, which features a garden centre and cafe and offers employment opportunities to young disabled people.
