TWO restaurants in Trowbridge have been shortlisted for the British Takeaway Awards in the South West region.

Smokey’s America Grill in Stallards Street and Nacho Cheese in Union Street have both been included in the shortlist of five to scoop the award alongside diners in Plymouth, Exmouth and Barnstaple.

Smokey’s was launched by husband and wife Simon and Kelly Llewellyn three years ago and serves American dishes including slow roasted pork belly ribs and hotdogs.

Co-owner Kelly Llewellyn said: “We are over the moon to be a finalist at the British Takeaway Awards. We put our life and soul into the business.

“We’re honest, hard-working and put pride and effort into everything we do. We use local produce so that we can support other local businesses around us, and it would mean so much to us to win."

Nacho Cheese, which opened in 2012 and serves authentic Mexican food, is hoping it will be a case of second time lucky after narrowly missing out on the award last year.

Owner Lorraine Priestley said: “We are delighted to be a finalist for the British Takeaway Awards, particularly since it’s a public vote.

“We have a brilliant relationship with our customers, not just front of house but often they’ll pop their heads into the kitchen to say hello to our chefs.

“We’re a close knit community and cannot thank the people of Trowbridge for voting for us.”

The winner will be named at The Savoy in London on Monday, December 5.
