BRITISH para-swimmer Stephanie Millward will turn on the Christmas lights at Shaw Trust’s community social enterprise Palmer Gardens later today.

The Rio 2016 gold medallist and five-time London 2012 games medallist will switch on the lights at the Trowbridge garden centre, which also boasts an on-site café and offers training and employment opportunities to local young disabled people.

Mrs Millward said: “I am delighted to be switching Shaw Trust’s Palmers Green centre’s Christmas lights this year.

“The charity provides amazing opportunities for young people with disabilities or long term health conditions to gain valuable training and work experience that will see them overcome vulnerability and build successful careers.”

The lights will be switched on at 5.30pm.

Emma Black, training manager of the Shaw Trust, Palmer Gardens said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the Stephanie Millward switch on the Christmas lights at Shaw Trust’s Palmers Gardens site.

"Stephanie is an inspirational athlete, who has had to overcome a lot of difficulties to achieve the amazing feat she did in Rio and in London.

“Palmer Gardens is a popular community institution in Trowbridge as such, we are honoured to have the opportunity to showcase the work of our staff and students.”
