DESPITE constant reminders from Wiltshire Police, items are still frequently being stolen from cars parked in the Trowbridge area, with six separate incidents in the past week.

Police believe the incidents could be linked and are again reminding people to keep their vehicles secure with nothing on show when cars are unattended.

Sometime between midnight on Wednesday, November 23 and 7am on Thursday, November 24, 15 CDs were stolen from a car parked in Bond Street.

In the same space of time, a TomTom sat nav and loose change was stolen from a car parked in Gloucester Road while a handbag was stolen from an insecure car parked in Gibbs Leaze, Hilperton, sometime between 8pm on Friday, November 25 and 11am the following day.

Elsewhere a pair of chinos and a Barbour jacket worth a combined total of £140 were stolen from a car parked in Barons Crescent sometime between 7pm on Friday, November 25 and 12.30pm on Saturday, November 26 before football boots, a CD player and CDs were stolen from a car parked in Waterworks Road.

Finally a jacket and some CDs were stolen from an insecure car parked in Redgrave Close at some point between 11.30am on Sunday, November 27 and 9am on Monday, November 28.

Community policing team inspector James Brain said: “Despite numerous warnings and advice to members of the public, we are continuing to hear reports of valuables being stolen from vehicles.

“It is so important that motorists are vigilant to help prevent becoming a victim. A thief only needs a few seconds to steal your belongings and leaving them on display is an invitation to opportunist thieves who will strike anywhere and at any time.

“Beauty spots can often be hot spots for this type of crime and Wiltshire has an abundance of these types of areas. Please bear this in mind when you are out and about enjoying the rural landscape."

Anyone who sees suspicious activity should contact police on 101, or if a crime is in progress ring 999 and if possible record the registration number of any vehicle involved.
