WITH less than a week away until the final collection date for the Wiltshire Times and Salvation Army Toy Appeal, Tesco Express in Trowbridge has already donated an impressive haul.

Over the past two weeks, the supermarket in County Way, Trowbridge, has placed a Christmas sleigh at the front desk in hopes of receiving generous donations from the public for this year’s toy appeal. After its final day of collection on Saturday (December 3) the team at Tesco collected and donated two full trolleys of toys for the underprivileged children.

Tara Wysocki, community champion for Tesco Express, said: “After two weeks of collection we had two full trolleys of donations. After emptying them Lauren and myself both made a donation ourselves and put about 30 items in it. It has been really successful, it’s fabulous. I would really like to say thank you to everyone who has helped those who aren’t as lucky as we are at this time of year. There is enough of a variety for a child of any age or gender to receive a gift, we have collected more than we did last year.”

Major Kelvin Lang, of the Salvation Army, said: “Tesco has been very supporting, the collection has been very encouraging. We will be hoping to have everything for our sorting by Sunday (December 11). It is amazing, we have had a really good response and I think I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated, the staff at Tesco and the community champions.”

The toy appeal’s collections will finish on Sunday, with the drop off points at The Shires, the Wiltshire Times offices in Duke Street and the Citadel in Castle Street will be collecting up until the end of the week.
