OVER 100 people enjoyed a free feast and games on Christmas Day thanks to the hard work of an army of volunteers.

The event, which is now in its sixth year, was first organised by Lucy May and her husband in 2011 to give lonely people something to do on Christmas Day.

Since then it has grown each year and this Christmas witnessed around 250 people, including volunteers, fill County Hall's central hub, where it has been held for the past three years.

One of the organising team, Kate Dewey, said: “It was a really fun day and great to see so many people enjoying each other’s company.

“Once our volunteers had familiarised themselves with the room we sent the drivers out to pick up our guests and everyone then met in The Atrium at around 10am.

“The day was then kicked off with a Christmas quiz led by Storm Brand from Wiltshire Council which got everyone in the festive spirit.

“It was then time for the lovely Christmas dinner provided by Apetito, while Elior provided the dining facilities, cakes and catering staff.

“One or two of our guests sadly couldn’t make it due to illness so we delivered meals and goodie bags to them, containing things like slippers, hats and gloves.”

There was also a play area for children, a ping pong table for those who wanted a bit of festive competition and a big raffle with prizes donated by local companies and the public.

Mrs Dewey added: “We would like to thank all the guests and volunteers for a really enjoyable Christmas Day, we hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.

“And thank you to all the members of public, schools and local companies that donated all the gifts and raffle prizes to make the day extra special.”
