WILTSHIRE Police increased their presence in the Castle Mead area of Trowbridge on December 30 in a bid to crackdown on anti-social driving.

After reports of speeding in the area, police had a heightened presence between 8pm and midnight and did it between Christmas and New Year’s Eve as this is typically a busy time on the roads.

PCSO Jay Greenland said: “Dense fog made the speed patrols difficult however, officers were able to carry out a number of vehicle checks.

“Several drivers were stopped after their vehicles were found to have dirty licence plates making their registration numbers illegible.

“Special constables were also involved in the patrols throughout the evening and were extremely proactive in stopping drivers and highlighting the importance of road safety.

“We have previously carried out patrols in the area, but we have continued to receive some reports from the local councillors regarding issues with drivers.”

Anyone wishing to report an incident on the roads should call police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
