COUNCILLORS have objected to plans to impose a weight limit on a road in Trowbridge in fear it may have made the current situation even worse.

A resident suggested that a vehicle weight limit should be implemented in Brook Road at an area board meeting, an issue which was discussed by Trowbridge Town Council’s planning committee on Tuesday (Feb 14).

Cllr John Knight said: “Any weight limit imposed on Brook Road would only have a detrimental impact on the residents of Wingfield Road.

“The current arrangement reasonably shares the traffic out between the two alternative routes and it would therefore be inappropriate to support the proposal.

“If Wingfield Road was forced to take school traffic as well as heavy goods vehicles it simply wouldn’t be feasible.”

The town council will not support Wiltshire Council in undertaking further work on a highway request for a weight limit.
