A FEEL-GOOD singalong group from Trowbridge which has been raising money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance (WAA) since its inception presented its earnings to the service on Monday (Feb 20).

The Sing-a-Longs formed in January 2016 with the aim of recreating old fashioned sing songs around a piano and have quickly grown in popularity thanks to their uplifting performances.

Comprising a keyboard player and around nine singers at each performance, the group has entertained residents a large number of care homes in Wiltshire, taking a collection bucket to each one, and has so far raised £2,400 for the WAA.

Group founder Lyndon Sparkes, of Hargreaves Road, Trowbridge, said: “When we first started the group we didn’t think it would get to this stage.

“At our first performance in Southwick we were paid £25 and didn’t really know what to do with it, so decided to give it to charity.

“We wanted to keep it local so went for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance as it’s such an important service and everyone knows about it, and have been raising money for them ever since.

“Raising money is easy because everyone is really generous at our performances and willing to put a bit of money in the bucket.”

The group perform a range of songs including wartime classics and hits such as The Scaffold’s Lily the Pink and Jonny Preston’s Running Bear.

“Everyone feels good after the performance,” added Mr Sparkes, 74.

“We absolutely love seeing everyone singing along with us, it is so satisfying.

“Setting up a group like this has been a lifetime ambition of mine and I’m glad it has been able to raise this amount for a very important cause.”
