THREE people from Trowbridge were hurt in a head-on crash in Dorset at the weekend, one being airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

An 84-year-old woman was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries when a silver Toyota Corolla crashed head-on with a blue Ford Focus on the  B3082 near Badbury Rings.

The Toyota was travelling from Wimborne to Blandford with the Ford Focus going in the opposite direction crashed.

The seriously injured woman was travelling in the rear of the Toyota. She was taken to Southampton General Hospital.

Also in the car were an 85-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman from Trowbridge, who were taken to Poole and Salisbury district hospitals respectively with slight injuries.

The crash was reported to police at around 10.30am yesterday.

Travelling in the Ford Focus, were a 75-year-old man, an 89-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman, all from the Blandford area, who suffered minor injuries.

The road reopened around 5pm yesterday.

Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Angus Wilson of the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101 quoting incident number 12:133.

PC Wilson said: “This was a serious collision and I am appealing for any witnesses to the incident or the manner of driving of either vehicle leading up to the collision to please come forward.

“We are aware that the incident and subsequent road closures have caused great inconvenience to many motorists and I would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience.

“These measures are necessary to allow the emergency services to safely deal with the scene and collision investigators to find out what happened.”
