FIREFIGHTERS from Trowbridge Fire Station turned their attention to scrubbing and spraying on Saturday for the station’s bi-annual charity car wash.
By cleaning dirty cars brought to the station by members of the public on Saturday they raised £662 for the Fire Fighters Charity, which assists serving and retired firefighters in need.
Bob Waller, Trowbridge crew manager, said: “If we go to a job and get injured as a result, the Fire Fighters Charity will be there for us afterwards if we need them
“So it’s great to show our support for such an important cause.
“It was also a very successful event and we were delighted to raise that much. The support from the community was fantastic and we had a constant supply of cars to wash.
“The lads were remarkably upbeat despite being called out in the night.
“We put banners up at the fire station a week before the event and it’s quite a busy road so it must have done the trick.”
Bath-based street food vendor JC’s Kitchen served up tasty treats for the firefighters and visitors throughout the day and gave all of his proceeds to the charity.
More than £320,000 was raised nationwide for the charity last year, pushing the total since 1987 to £3.5m.
