PEOPLE in Wiltshire with drug and alcohol issues are getting committed support from proactive staff who work well with partners, according to the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The Wiltshire Substance Misuse Service, delivered by Turning Point and commissioned by Wiltshire Council, has been praised by the CQC following a recent inspection – receiving its most positive report since forming.

Martin Lawrence, Turning Point hub manager, said: “Turning Point, since the start of the contract award in 2013, has worked hard to develop a range of treatment options to support people in Wiltshire.

“It is fantastic that the team of dedicated staff have been recognised for their hard work and commitment in the continued improvement of Wiltshire services.

“We have been recognised nationally for our performance in terms of positive outcomes, and this CQC report underpins this performance with a good measure of quality, this report further rewards all the fantastic individual and collective input.

“Congratulations to all the teams across Wiltshire.”

The CQC report highlights that staff at the service assess and manage risk very well and interact with clients in a warm, positive way and that management is strong.

The service aims to help people aged 18 and over to think about their drug and alcohol usage and if they want to make changes it supports them to put together a tailored action plan.

It provides a range of support and interventions including a structured group work programme, counselling, one to one work, parenting course and access to online resources and tools to support recovery.

Wiltshire Council cabinet member for public health, Jerry Wickham, said: “Turning Point provides an invaluable service to residents and this positive report demonstrates they are terrific at what they do.

“Turning Point puts the needs of the people they work with at the heart of everything they do and are determined to support people all the way on their road to recovery.”

Last year a total of 518 people left treatment successfully having been supported by the service.
