YOUNG entrepreneurs in Trowbridge are being invited to make the most of their potential and sign up to become part of the Go Fish team.

The Go Fish team aim to introduce young people into the world of work, preparing them for when they finish college and start looking for work. Already receiving support from local companies such as Apetito, Howard Travel, the Selwood Group, Office Evolutions and GripIt Fixings, Go Fish has been working hard to grab the attention of the young locals.

David Baker, chairman of Go Fish, said: “We organised a market in the town in October so young entrepreneurs from that are being invited to stand in front of our Dragons, like the TV show, and explain how they would take the £500 funding and invest it further.

“We really want to get more schools involved with Go Fish, we have started work with Wiltshire College but it would be great to work with St Augustines, John of Gaunt and Clarendon as well.”

The Dragon's Den-style evening for the market holders will be taking place at Trowbridge Town Hall on Thursday (April 20), with the college's evening not taking place until July.

To help guide and nurture young people’s interests in the world of work, Mr Baker organised a visit to Apetito on April 4 to show a group of students the inner workings of a busy company.

“We had a visit to Apetito with students at the local college to show them round. It is important for young people to see what lies ahead of them in the world of work. They had the chance to meet members of staff, see what the company does and have a tour around the facility. It was a wonderful experience for them all, we met one man who works on the line and he was saying how much he loves his job and how happy he is there,” added Mr Baker.

As well as being a success for Go Fish, staff at the college have said that it was a valuable experience for their students.

Pippa Thomas Lecturer at the College said: "This was an invaluable day for our business studies students who were given the opportunity to see how a locally based firm is thriving in a competitive environment.”

Zoe Beauvoisin, learning and development manager from Apetito, said: “It’s fantastic to engage with young people who are part of the future talent pipeline of our organisation and we look forward to working with GOFISH again in the future.”

George Daulman, 17, is a member of the Go Fish team, helping to design leaflets and carry out the marketing of the group.

"I help design and create the leaflets and other pieces of work and I always get a lot of feedback. It is actually a great opportunity as you may not always get that level of feedback from other places. I think it is a great opportunity for young people to learn about businesses, it helps to support young people as well," George said.
