RESIDENTS will be able to learn about the history of Staverton at a public event next weekend.

Organised by the village’s online parish clerk, John Corfield, and reverend John Rees, the informative event will take place between 2pm-5pm in the village hall on Sunday, April 30.

Mr Corfield said: “I’m interested in the history of Staverton and I want people to share that enthusiasm and learn about its history too.

“Until the marina arrived in 1995, there wasn’t really much to Staverton aside from the old village, where residents objected to it being built when it was announced.

“I want people to come and have a chat and take a look at the displays, which will feature old planning applications, maps and other interesting artefacts, and see it as a good opportunity to promote Staverton as a single entity."

Mr Corfield hopes to form a group that will carry out work to preserve the graveyard at St Paul's Church and other aspects of the village.
