Made in Dagenham

Arc Theatre, Trowbridge

TAOS Musical Theatre are turning the clock back nearly five decades to bring a musical based on a true story to the stage next week.

Made in Dagenham is inspired by the fight of female car workers at the Ford plant in Essex in 1968 for equal pay and rights with men, and was also made into a hit movie,

The uplifting musical comedy features friendship, love and the importance of fighting for what is right.

It focusses on strike leader Rita O'Grady, who is encouraged by a sympathetic union representative to bring the women's grievances to Ford. The meeting goes badly and, outraged by the company's lack of respect for them, Rita leads her colleagues out on strike.

Quickly drawing on a strength she never knew she had, Rita leads her friends in a battle against the might of Ford and the corruption of the Union supposed to protect them. As the girls’ inspiring journey gets bigger than anyone could have imagined, the pressure is too much for some, but can Rita keep up the fight and the happy home she’s worked so hard for?

Funny, touching and timeless, Made in Dagenham shows how ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they stand together.

The production runs from May 16-20, tickets from 01225 756376.
