A PRE-SCHOOL in Hilperton is nearing its fundraising target which will allow it to build a new building on its current premises.

St Michael’s in Whaddon Lane has submitted a planning application for the new buildings, which will allow it to have its own space instead of having to share the village hall, from where it currently operates, with other groups.

It is now just £10,000 off reaching its target of £34,300 and has some events lined up to help it get over the line.

Lead practitioner Sonja Kotevska said: “The two new rooms will accommodate both children aged between two and three and three and five.

“The expansion will enable us to provide the extended 30 hours a week required as part of a recent Government initiative, which will give parents more flexibility.

“We must say a huge thank you to the local community for supporting our project so far – we really hope Wiltshire Council will approve the application.”

An acoustic night will be held on May 20 and a quiz night on June 24 to boost funds, full details of which can be found on the school’s website.

After support by councillors Ernie Clerk and Stephen Oldrieve, a grant of £20,000 was approved at Trowbridge Area Board in March.

The pre-school’s committee was offered a government grant of £170,000, equating to 75 per cent of the £226,700 project, in January this year but it has had to raise the remaining 25 per cent.
