A TROWBRIDGE choir is in with a chance of performing with an elite orchestra after being shortlisted for the Great British Prom Choir Competition.

The West Wiltshire Singers only formed in March but has attracted over 50 singers at every weekly practice, a feat which impressed the competition judges.

If the choir beats a choir from Wales, called Soul’d as Seen, it will win the prize of singing on stage with the National Symphony Orchestra and Only Men Aloud at Bowood House on August 6.

Choir founder Michelle Anthony-Cresswell said: “This is an incredible opportunity for the singers and if we win it’ll be something they, and I, will never forget.

“I was amazed when 59 people came along to the first rehearsal in March and we have such a diverse range of singers of all ages, which makes the choir sound fantastic.”

Mrs Anthony-Cresswell entered the competition by writing a bit of text about the choir and submitting a clip of her singers singing Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.

To win the competition, the choir must attract more ‘likes’ than Soul’d as Seen on SoundCloud and the choir is urging members of the community to support it to give its members the opportunity of a lifetime.
