PUPILS from a Trowbridge primary school paid a visit to a retirement home to have afternoon tea with residents.

The group of youngsters from Newtown Community Primary School visited Regal Court in Bythesea Road on Friday, May 12 and brought a sample of scones and biscuits they had baked themselves to share with residents.

“There was a fabulous choice of cherry and chocolate shortbread and scones to choose from.

Mr Marshall, headteacher of Newtown, said: “It was a lovely opportunity for the Newtown foodies to show off their amazing skills and see other people get enjoyment out of their cooking.

“The children go and sing Christmas carols every year, but this was the first visit of this kind that the school has made. It was such a success that the plan is to meet on a monthly basis so that the older and young generations can interact and learn from each other.”

The pupils shared their secret recipes they have used recently and took on the role of waiters and waitresses, making sure all of the residents’ requests were met.

They also met two of Regal Court’s residents who went to the primary school when they were younger and enjoyed talking about how the school has changed.
