MORE than 100 people headed to the Independent Living Centre in Semington for a fun-filled open day on Tuesday.

Guests were given tours of the centre, in St George's Place, other local charities set up stands giving out information about their causes and £450 was raised from a raffle in aid of the charity.

Semington Choir and the Holt and Hilperton handbell ringers put on performances for the attendees and a demonstration from DOG AID, where assistance dog Lucas showed how he loads and empties a washing machine, rounded off a successful day for the centre.

"Everyone had a great time, there was a great social atmosphere and it was good to raise awareness about ourselves but also to have other charities come along too," said admin officer Chantelle Mead.

"This was the best open day we have done for sure. There was some great entertainment on show and people went home very happy. It was nice of Chippenham Mayor Mary Norton and Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Richard Handover, come along as well."

The Independent Living Centre offers free and impartial advice to elderly and disabled people, providing practical solutions for easier living.

It has an occupational therapist and part-time disabilities benefits advisor, and visitors can try a vast range of products aimed at making life easier for elderly and disabled people.
