A DISABLED woman from Trowbridge has slammed a parking firm for hitting her with a £60 fine even though she says she had her blue badge on display.

Sandra Robinson, of Clothier Leaze, says she parked her car in a disabled space at The Gateway, above Argos, with her blue badge showing but still got a ticket from UK Parking Control.

The 60-year-old had an operation in 2009 to remove a brain tumour, but during the procedure she had a stroke and was in a coma for a week at Frenchay in Bristol.

Ms Robinson, who cannot hear in her left ear, suffers from memory loss and uses a walking stick as a result of the stroke, has refused to pay up as she is adamant she has done nothing wrong.

“I was shocked and appalled to see that I had received a ticket. I parked in the disabled space, had my blue badge on display and yet I still get a £60 fine,” said Ms Robinson, who received the fine on July 3.

“There was nothing on the parking sign that said anything about getting a ticket or anything like that. It is very frustrating to receive this when I have done nothing wrong. When I called up to protest, UK Parking Control were not helpful.

“It is not right giving disabled drivers parking tickets. There is no way I am paying this.

“It would be a struggle anyway when I receive employment and support allowance and a disability living allowance.”

“This has been very frustrating for me, I am worried about getting fined again despite following the rules.”

Ms Robinson has been in remission for the past seven years but had to give up her job for medical reasons. This is the second time she has received a parking ticket. She was fined a similar amount a few years ago at the town’s Odeon cinema.

Her blue badge had fallen onto the floor and she successfully appealed and she is hopeful that she can get this ticket cancelled as well.

“Hopefully they will see sense and I won’t have to pay,” she said. “You have to fight these people and stop them getting away with this.”

A spokesman from UK Parking Control said: “We can confirm that the signage states that all car park users need to display a valid pay and display ticket. It also says that a valid disabled badge must be clearly displayed at all times for vehicles parked in a disabled bay. At the time the charge was issued, a pay and display ticket was not on display.”
