CHILDREN in Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon enjoyed a different approach to marking Halloween when they had fun at a light party and a superhero event this week.

More than 50 children dressed as Spiderman, Batman and Wonder Woman at St Margaret’s Hall in Bradford on Avon on Tuesday for a fun-filled evening.

Members of the Bradford on Avon Community Church organised the event, that included songs led by Christian musical entertainer Ishmael, as an alternative to the traditional Halloween activities.

Church member Juliet Greaves said: “We had lots of people there, including lots of babies, as well as parents, friends and relations.

There was a lovely, party atmosphere, with lots of superheroes. It was just a time for children to dress up and have fun. Whether they were superheroes or not, it didn’t matter.

“It was just great fun and the children were jumping up and down. They all went home with party bags at the end of the evening.”

Trowbridge’s St James’ Church turned the church hall into a party venue for the third year in a row on Tuesday evening. The children enjoyed singing, a Bible story in the form of a puppet show, biscuit making, making clay hand prints and various arts and crafts.

Family worker at the church, Katie Jackson, said she organised the event as she doesn’t like the connotations of trick or treating and the values it promotes.

Mrs Jackson said: “It is important to teach children that there is a lot of darkness in the world, but there can be the light.”

The costume theme for the night was The Beach and around 50 children attended.

A similar number, some dressed as Spiderman, Batman and Wonder Woman, filled St Margaret’s Hall in Bradford on Avon on Tuesday for a fun-filled evening.
