4:24pm Sunday 9th December 2007 in Trowbridge By Craig Evry
SUPERMARKET giant Tesco is hosting a Meet the Farmers Roadshow at its Trowbridge store tomorrow.
The roadshow is aimed at showing customers that Tesco is supporting local farmers, while teaching children and their parents about the benefits of buying locally-farmed produce.
It will promote locally-produced vegetables and varieties of meat, with farmers and growers on hand to chat to customers about the quality of their fare, as well as cooking up a storm for shoppers to sample.
At the County Way store, customers will be able to chat to Bob Anstey, who is a farmer and a fieldsman for St Merryn Meats and has been a valuable member of the St Merryn meat procurement team in the south west for many years.
He visits beef and lamb producers in the south west daily and selects livestock for them on behalf of St Merryn Meat.
The roadshow has a range of giveaway goodies, as well as competitions for children who can win their own grow-bag kits.
Tesco commercial manager Giles Gravatt said: "We have been impressed by how supportive the customers are of local produce. They are really keen to chat to the farmers about their business and to sample the fruit."
