Soap star to switch on Trowbridge Christmas lights

Former Hollyoaks and EastEnders actress Gemma Bissix will be switching on the Christmas lights in Trowbridge next month.

The actress will be making an appearance in the town, as she will be starring as the Bad Fairy in the pantomime Sleeping Beaty at the Theatre Royal in Bath from December 17 until January 24.

Bissix is best known for her roles as Clare Bates in EastEnders and as Clare Devine in Hollyoaks, for which she has won various awards.

Earlier this year she appeared on ITV’s Dancing On Ice and in an EastEnders special edition of the Weakest Link and reached the quarter finals of BBC’s Celebrity Master Chef.

Bissix will be switching on the Christmas lights in the town at 6.30pm on Saturday, December 5.

Shortly beforehand at 6pm a lantern parade will take place along Fore Street, in which an ice queen will be pulled in a sleigh accompanied by elves and soldiers.

The town will be covered in ‘snow’ and there will be a Christmas market and Santa’s Grotto with real reindeers too.

Vocal Works Gospel Choir, from Bath, will be performing their unique blend of soul and gospel on the stage in Fore Street from 5pm.

The choir, who have been the support act for Jamie Cullum, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Courtney Pine, and performed before Bath Rugby matches, will be singing their own arrangements of classic Christmas carols and songs such as Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, Joy To The World, All I Want For Christmas Is You and Mary's Boy Child.

Founded in 2003, the choir have built up a reputation for inspiring their audiences with their energy, presentation and soulful voices.

In addition, the Sensory Garden, behind the former town hall, will be illuminated by hundreds of candles from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
