Young Labour candidate Rebecca Rennison is urging people to go out and vote, even if it’s not for her party.
The 28-year-old was canvassing in College Road and surrounding roads in Trowbridge on Tuesday where she came across a lot of disillusioned and apathetic voters.
“We live in a democracy and it frustrates me that people don’t go out and vote when people risk life and limb to vote in places like Iraq,” she said.
“People see this election as much more open than in previous years.
Betty Prince, 74, of College Road, agrees.
The pensioner usually votes Conservative, but is looking closely at all the candidates for the South West Wiltshire seat.
“I’m very doubtful about which party I’m going to vote for because you don’t read anything good about these MPs,” she said.
“The MPs haven’t done themselves any favours during the past year.”
First-time voter Tracy Matthew, 22, who lives in College Road with partner Jon Reeks, 25, and their children Lily, one, and Freya, five months, said she is looking for a party that can offer jobs to all.
“Good schools and nurseries are important to us, and I’m thinking about going back to work so job availability will also be important,” she said. “We will sit down and have a good look before voting.”
