A MAN appeared before magistrates in Chippenham today charged with grievous bodily harm in connection with an incident in Southwick on Friday night.
Neil Sutherland, 22, of Horton Street, Frome, was released on conditional bail to appear at Swindon Crown Court next Monday.
A man believed to be in his 30s suffered serious head injuries in the incident in a lay-by near the Axe and Cleaver, formerly The Wych, in Southwick just after 6pm on Friday.
He was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath then transferred to Bristol's Frenchay Hospital where his condition is described as critical.
A 58-year-old man from Trowbridge and a 20-year-old man from Frome were also arrested after the incident and have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
