Farmers cultivate charity cash with tractor trip
10:00am Sunday 18th August 2013 in Warminster
Farmers dressed up in period costumes for a special trip in 14 vintage tractors to Imber on Saturday, raising about £300 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance on the way.
The tractors carrying the farmers and their partners were provided by Chris Cradock, of Cradock’s Tractors in Westbury, after tickets were purchased at auction, with the proceeds going towards Witham Vale Farmers.
After setting off from Cradock Tractors in the morning, the group headed to Westbury’s White Horse in the tractors – all from the period of 1943-1963 – before reaching Imber village for a banquet.
Organiser John White said: “We originally bought the chance to take the tractors to Imber at auction, with £500 going to Witham Vale Farmers, but we also raised £300 for the air ambulance on the day.
“It was an extremely fun day and it was great that none of the tractors broke down, as some of them hadn’t been started up for over 30 years.
“Everyone made a real effort to dress up in period costume and they all looked great.
“I also want to say a massive thank you to Chris Cradock, as the whole day wouldn’t have been possible without him.”
