Pre-inquest hearing into death of Warminster boy takes place today
A pre-inquest hearing into the death of Warminster boy Sean Turner will take place at Flax Bourton Coroner’s Court in Bristol today, with the coroner to decide whether the inquest should be heard before a jury.
The four-year-old son of Warminster couple Yolanda and Steve Turner died at Bristol Children’s Hospital in March last year, six weeks after corrective surgery for a congenital heart condition.
The decision about whether the inquest will be heard before a jury was due to be made at a pre-inquest hearing in April, but the hospital failed to supply all the witness statements required.
Mr and Mrs Turner believe their son died because he did not get appropriate care after surgery. At least 19 witnesses have been requested for the hearing.
If all of the witness statements are submitted to the hearing today, coroner Maria Voisin will use them to consider whether the inquest, which has been scheduled for January 14 next year, should be heard before a jury.
A few weeks after Sean died, Luke Jenkins, seven, of Cardiff, died in similar circumstances at the hospital, after surgery to correct a heart problem. An inquest into his death is set to take place at Flax Bourton on November 11.
