Truckers to stage tribute convoy on Warminster bypass
Members of the heavy transport industry will be turning up for a truck convoy along the Warminster bypass on Saturday to celebrate the 70th birthday of Martin Phippard.
Mr Phippard, who worked as a salesman at Volvo Truck and Buses for 30 years, is a well- respected member of the heavy transport industry, selling trucks around the world.
In October last year, the Warminster resident was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) and the rapid onset of the terminal illness has left him unable to speak.
Close friend Richard Paterson, of Bulk Solutions, Melksham, organised the convoy as a tribute to Martin. It will go from the service station next to the Warminster roundabout to the Longleat roundabout and back.
Mr Paterson said: “Martin spoke about a truck convoy for his funeral, but I thought why wait?
“He is such a lovely man, so once people heard about the convoy they were only too willing to come along and take part.”
Inspector Alan Webb said: “Between 10am and 10.45am on Saturday a truck convoy will be taking place from the Granada services on the A36 along the Warminster bypass.
“If drivers are able to, please avoid the route and the surrounding area at this time, as there may be some minor congestion.”
