Pupils at Horningsham Primary School have celebrated the opening of their exhibition in conjunction with Longleat Safari and Adventure Park, inspired by the National Gallery’s Take One Picture programme.

The exhibition is a collection based on four exhibits at Longleat House, with each class at the village school, near Warminster, asked to create something to help young people with enquiry-based learning.

Reception and Year One explored the Great Hall, Year 2 and 3 investigated the State Dining Room and Year 4, 5 and 6 were set the challenge of making a carriage for Lord Bath.

The children’s work, which was displayed until January 10 at the school, also helped Longleat achieve accreditation as a National Gallery Take One Provider for UK schools. Headteacher Carole Andrews said: “We are thrilled that our work has helped Longleat to acquire full accreditation from the National Gallery.”

The school has also embarked on a recycling project, called Take One Wall.

Pupils are drawing inspiration from the wallpaper of one wall within Longleat House to reduce, reuse and recycle their own paper into elaborate creations.

South West Wiltshire MP Andrew Murrison, who visited the exhibition last Friday, said: “I was really impressed with the exhibition and the project clearly involved a huge variety of skills.”
