Tunnelling badgers have forced the closure of a rural road in Corsley.

The road was shut after holes, caused by badger tunnels, appeared.

Wiltshire Council has now been given a licence to allow them to dig in the area to carry out road repairs, with a vet and cage at the ready.

The council hopes to reopen the road by the end of next week.

Neil Britten, who chairs Corsley Parish Council, said: “It has caused problems as it is the main access route for the caravan club site at Longleat. It is also heavily used by the farming community.”

A Council spokesman said: “Any work to a badger sett requires a licence from Natural England. We are working with them to identify what is necessary to reopen the road as soon possible.”
