Wiltshire Police are appealing for information over dangerous driving which followed the theft of alcohol from the Waitrose, Station Road, Warminster, on Friday.

At about 1.15pm three women entered the store and selected bottles from adisplay.

They were then observed acting suspiciously near to the exit and then left the store making no attempt to pay.

The women got into a silver Ford Focus which was driven off at speed, overtaking a stationary vehicle at the junction onto Station Road and nearly colliding with a taxi.

It then turned into Market Place and two members of the public attempted to challenge the driver.

The car then mounted the pavement and was driven along it up to the traffic lights of Weymouth Street/High Street and returned back onto the road causing two other vehicles to collide.

The Ford Focus was then driven off in the direction of the High Street.

Inspector Alan Webb said: "It is astonishing that the driver of the Ford Focus did not cause a serious collision or major injury to a pedestrian.

"The manner of driving was extremely dangerous and left many people shaken by what had happened.

"I would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area and saw this incident to come forward."

Anyone with information regarding the theft or the dangerous driving is asked to contact Warminster Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.
