POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an accident near Warminster yesterday just before 6pm in which four women were hurt.

Three women aged 81, 96 and 92 were travelling in a Fiat Punto towards Warminster along the B3414 Warminster Road which is thought to have crossed the white lines into a Mercedes C220 driven by a 49-year-old man from the Romsey area.

Following the collision, the Mercedes lost control and crossed the carriage way into a VW Golf driven by a 58-year-old woman.

The driver of the Fiat Punto, whose injuries are believed to be serious, and her two passengers were taken to Salisbury District Hospital by ambulance, as was the woman driver of the VW Golf.

The male driver of a Mercedes is not believed to have been seriously hurt.

Police closed the road at about midnight after the cars were removed and investigations were complete.
