COUNCILLOR Sue Fraser has been voted the new mayor of Warminster after the town council held its annual general meeting last night.

A unanimous decision by fellow council members means Cllr Fraser will hold the position for a second time, after being chosen in 2010/11.

She will replace Andrew Davies and has chosen Wessex Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre as her charity of choice.

“I’m looking forward to serving as mayor again and having done it before I know what to expect which will make it a little easier I think,” she said.

“I’m very proud to have been chosen again, I work and live in this town and to promote it is an honour.”

Cllr Pip Ridout was chosen as deputy mayor, also for the second time, despite abstentions from Cllr Nick Dombowski and Cllr Paul Macdonald.

She said: “Me and Cllr Fraser work well together and I’m able to cover any events she can’t make most of the time, which suits me fine.

“I really want to bring more of the younger ones through and it’s not a given I will be mayor next year.”

Trowbridge will be one of the last town councils in the area to vote in a mayor, which will take place on May 19.
