WARMINSTER Scouts have been left devastated after senseless vandals smashed windows with slabs and bricks at their scout hut.

The incident took place between 6.30pm on May and 7.47am on May 9 at the hut on Weymouth Street.

Five panes, two windows and frames were damaged in the senseless crime and chairman of Warminster Scouts, Philip Owen, is unsure how much the damage will cost to repair.

He said: “We’ve boarded the windows up but as yet we don’t know how much it’s going to cost as we don’t know if we’re going to replace them all.

“Nothing was damaged or taken from inside, it was just a mess when we went down to do some work in the ground and found glass everywhere and part of a slab inside.

“I’m disgusted by it and it took us a few hours to sort it all out, it’s just time consuming because someone has had five minutes of thoughtlessness.

“We’ve spent a lot of money trying to keep the hut tidy by repainting it and doing little bits to it as it is 80-years old so requires maintenance.”

Inspector Chris Chammings said: “This scout hut is an important part of the community and is a place to nurture and teach our young people how to act.

“Senseless damage caused to any property is inexcusable, however when it is aimed towards community based properties we rely on people to come forward and tell us if they saw anything to prevent this happening again.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
