A woman has been airlifted to hospital with suspected life changing injuries after a car collided with the front of the Lidl supermarket in Warminster today.

A shopper called police at around midday to say that a green Peugoet 206 had collided with metal bollards and a number of trolleys, directly outside the front of the supermarket, trapping a woman between the car and the trolleys.

Great Western Air Ambulance and ambulance services were called, along with Wilshire Fire and Rescue Service to help release the trapped woman.

Four pedestrians were injured and the 56-year-old trapped woman, who is from Lincolnshire was taken by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital, in Bristol, with potentially life changing injuries.

A 71-year-old man, from Warminster, was taken by road ambulance to the Royal United Hospital, in Bath, with potentially life changing injuries.

Another male was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A 14-year-old girl, from Westbury, was also treated for minor injuries at the scene.

It's believed the woman car driver, from Salisbury, was uninjured.

A spokesman for Lidl said: "This is a very distressing incident for all involved and our thoughts are with those injured and otherwise involved in the incident.

"Naturally, our staff responded to the incident promptly and provided every assistance possible to those involved.

"As the incident is currently under investigation by the police we are unable to comment further in relation to this matter."
