STUDENTS from Warminster School ditched the classroom for the outdoors on their final day, helping the town with a Community Action Day.

The action day, which has been a tradition for more than five years, sees students from the school on Church Street helping the community on their last day.

This ranges from packing bags in local supermarkets to tidying up key areas in the town and local area, which this year included 60 pupils helping at the Minster Church.

Terri Wilcox, head of co-curricular and Community Action Day co-ordinator, said: “Community Action Day is an important day in the Warminster School calendar.

“Our pupils enjoy working to support the town and their community.

“The group at the War Memorial managed to not only clear weeds and some overgrown ivy, but were also able to plant new flowers.

“There was some bench lichen sanding and it is hoped that a small group of pupils will continue this good work in September.

“Their brief will be to repaint the poppies before Remembrance Day parade.”

Headmaster Mark Mortimer added: “It is important that our pupils give back to their community and I have received a great deal of positive feedback from local residents.

“This is wonderful and sums up what the day is about.”
